the sun on the board — dawn and dusk at the hearth's service
Memories from the hearth census · the true hours
dawn, dusk, noon, midnight — exact.

The census read its almanac: next dawn, next dusk, next midnight, next noon — a whole sky on the entity board. The house keeps the sun as a service, and the sun, for once, keeps the house.
The hearth keeps its own private sun: the Daykeeper, the astro-clock of the house. It knows the exact minute of dawn, dusk, noon and midnight — the true ones, not the clock's approximations — and hands them to every automation that asks. The porch light brightens on real dusk; the nite-lites wake on real dawn. The house rises and sleeps by the sun's own schedule, kept by a small service that never looks away from the sky.
