The Build Story
Manannán mac Lir rides the mist at the edges of the world, and where the mist folds, the mornings fold with it — the traveler on the strand never knows which dawn he is walking into, and the sea is under no obligation to tell him. It is the oldest trick in the western islands, and the gentlest. The calendar of the age had no such courtesy: it marched its seven days in a straight grey line and named the start of them without asking anyone. So the garden's weatherworker borrowed the god's method in miniature — not storm, not enchantment of any guest, only a small mist folded politely over the page, so that every day the eye opens on is the first day, and the week is always at its beginning. The monks of old cursed Manannán for it; the calendar never even noticed.
