OctoPi
the maker's familiar — the printer's keeper, small arms at the ready
Memories from the hearth census · the long watch
every layer, all night.
2026-11-02 · the census
Found at the census: the printer outlets — blue LED, red LED, USB, the Prusa Mini power — all on the hearth's switchboard. The familiar holds the night shift so the maker doesn't have to.
Every forge needs a familiar: OctoPi, the eight-armed keeper of the printers. It watches the Prusa Mini and the resin beds while the smith sleeps — temperature, layer, filament — and squeaks when a print warps. Its sibling console rides the family room Pi, streaming films between shifts. From the hearth it feeds the smith's relics: the cast rings and boards on the Instructables wall began under its watch.
